MGPHX Meet Up

/ Comments (2)

Justin Katz is a busy guy and in between running the collaborative efforts of Flock of Pixels he manages to organize an inspiring meet up aimed at motion graphics folks, but open to all.

Last night the MGPHX group meet up was held at Kitchen Sink Studios with a great turn out. Among the many talented people in attendance, Lisa Poje, Gabriel Naylor and Kitchen Sink took centerstage. Lisa presented on her animated short film, Squanderpus, in which she worked on during her free time with Nissanai Trujillo and Jason Camiolo. After viewing the film, Lisa talked about her process, roadblocks and how she over came them. Gabriel tapped into his extensive knowledge to talk about the technical aspects behind photography and moving pictures in which Katz lovingly renamed, "shit we should know by now." While the information may be common knowledge amongst many people in attendance, it was nice to have a refresher and gain some new education for those who didn't know. The guys from Kitchen Sink showcased great work ranging from impressive 3D environments, animations and legal renderings to a 3D printed leave behind and interactive augmented reality.

To top off the night, great prizes from Stash and Trapcode were raffled off. After speaking with about the meet up, Justin mentioned he's aiming to have these meet ups quarterly and hopes to expand presentations to cover many topics, including tutorial sessions.

It's fair to say events like this are helping to contribute to strength of the design community here in Phoenix. Here at Phoenix Egotist, we look forward to seeing more groups like this and telling you about them here. If you have an event coming up, drop us a line and we'll get you covered!

It was an amazing experience to be surrounded by such creative people! Can't wait for the next one.

Sad I couldn't make it out for this last night.
