If you went to the last PHX Design Week Conference, you may remember some funky stylish chairs sitting around the stage in the main keynote room. Those chairs happened to be designed by one of the conference sponsors, Herman Miller. In today's Tech article, we cover some seemingly low tech, but very functional modern furniture and accessories made by Herman Miller and other extremely talented designers.

Airia Desk and Media Cabinet

If two desk's from 1950 and 2011 started a family and had some kids, it would be the Airia Desk and Media Cabinet from Herman Miller. Aside from sleek looks and clean lines, this set keep cables and small items out of the way with smart minimal shelving and cable management. The media cabinet compliments the desk by combining the same oak finish with adjustable shelves.

Staircase

Don't have a lot of room, but you have tall ceilings and you're not sure what to do? One option could be the Staircase shelving unit by Danny Kuo. At first glance, the 8.5 foot tall Staircase may seem useless without a stepping stool, but upon further inspection, you discover that problem has been solved. The bottom three shelves slide out to become a mini staircase and give you access to the higher shelves.

Knax Walnut Coat Hook

The Knax Walnut Coat Hook from Denmark by loca is a transformer of sorts. By itself, it looks like a fancy piece of walnut, awkwardly hanging on your wall. However, when it's not playing coy, the Knax Walnut Coat Hook is actually a clever way to hang coats and stay out of the way when not in use. The hooks are spring loaded so you wont gouge your should as you walk through the hallway.

The only downside to all this great furniture is that you may have to take out a second mortgage to fully outfit your house.
