Arby's Fail

/ Comments (1)

UPDATE AT BOTTOM OF POST.

In recent news, Crispin Porter + Bogusky fails with the new Arby's logo and then insults the focus group capital of the world, Des Moines, Iowa. Someone get Bogusky back immediately. This place is going to the shitter.

Arby's is known for it's Western attitude. They removed the western type and replaced it with ebay san serif knock-offs. The 3D hat, doesn't do as much harm as the typography but doesn't need the flash.

Next up, the commercial. What the fuck were you thinking when you decided to diss Iowa? Don't you know housewives in Des Moines determine the fate for all of the world's advertising. Dumb asses.

Here is how it aired originally:

Here's how it airs now:

Really though what's the difference? Why should Iowans be up in arms? Here's why. Meat plants stand next to corn production as the heart and soul of most the small towns in Iowa. It would be the same thing if someone said the same thing about McDonald's using Idaho potatoes or Maine Lobster. It's too far away, so it's obviously not fresh.

Never, ever attack a state's income or the state's people will come after you and make you eat the cost to change the advertising.

UPDATE 10/10/12: We received a letter from CP+B stating they did not design the logo. Phew! Bogusky stay where you are at.

CP+B consulted with two agencies, Adrienne Weiss Corporation and Alcone Marketing, who ultimately developed the logo. We still think it's shitty.

CP+B did create the TV spots, radio, etc. Since the recut, Iowans have settled down a bit, though Subway is now voicing their unhappiness with the ads. Pissing off potential consumers, not cool. Pissing off competition, success.

I always thought the hat looked more like a fish drawn by a 3rd grader. If you are going to change the logo the 'hat' would have been the place to start not the type. All wrong.
